unfold the rhythm

in the third class of drawing and imaging, the activity of the day was surprising. we were made to blind fold ourselves and listen to two music genres one after the other. we were given one charcoal stick in our hand and where asked to scribble on the rhythm of the songs.

further ahead, we marked 4″ by 4″ and 2″ by 2″ squares by using frames to draw rough markings. these framed parts of the entire newsprint were then simplified and pieced down onto a cartridge sheet.

we used the simplified compositions to study positive and negative space. for this we covered alternative areas with black ink and left their adjacent empty.
