Commercial Styling

INTERNSHIP REPORT

As we all know, a styling job takes more than just being there on the set and dressing the performers. There is a whole lot of running in the background. Starting one week before the shoot day, I began to approach brands such as Alpa and Reena, FCUK, Swarang designs and many more. The key here was to acquire 3 times the required number of sourced apparel to avoid running out of options. Having started with the process of approaching brands, Ms. Prachiti Parakh- the head stylist of this project gave me some numbers to contact specific to certain brands. As I began to call them, I realized most of them worked at the same institution called PR Pundit. This body acts as a link in between international brands and bloggers, stylists, etc. Here I received sourcing letters from FCUK, Gap, United Colors of Benetton, Kate Spade watches and Splash India. Further via previous meets and other sources, I managed to get on board brands such as Lifestyle, Bags by Anqi, Watermark, Ajio online, FCUK, Swarang designs, Koovs and Project Eve. The task now was to go to stores and pick apparel according to the allowance mentioned. The back office of the stores printed out gate pass that included all details of the garments to be sent out without payment.

Coming down to the day of filming, the team of Pocket Access had rented out a property at Madh island. The styling team was allotted an entire room and a dress dada. It was only then that it hit me- this episode was in collaboration with Mia by Tanishq and hence, we would be styling with fine and expensive jewelry too. We received a copy of the final script and the shooting sequence. I began to put together looks for all the four actresses. With every change, the decided sequence was mixed up which kept me on my toes throughout the 18 hour shift.

This opportunity definitely helped me understand what it takes to do the job of a fashion stylist and the background preparations that go into it. Being on set in itself had a different feel to it as my chances of being asked to perform an extra besides my favorite actor of their gang, Dhruv Sehgal; really scaled it’s luck. Special thanks to Poonam Mishra (Fashion Communication Course Head) and Prachiti Parakh (Stylist at Pocket Aces) for holding me worthy at such a young stage.
